Rusini Gunawardena of ‘Thiwarna‘, shot last week for today’s Canon Sri Lanka launch of the R5 and R6 mirrorless cameras. I’m usually not that interested in shooting in artificial light, but this was justified; using constant tungsten to light up Rusini against the fading twilight on Mt Lavinia Beach.

Theretra nessus, on my window sill in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in July 2019. A couple of years ago, I posted photos of a much larger and more colourful specimen, but unfortunately that one was dying. I was lucky that this bugger was trapped inside my living room and was able to snap a few shots before he escaped.

One of the lesser known members of the hawk moth family (Sphingidae), the relatively large yam hawk moth (Theretra nessus) has a wingspan of over 10cm, and is native to the Indian subcontinent, east and southeast Asia. Colombo, Sri Lanka, November 2016.
