The City Mission

Methodist Church, Pettah
In stark contrast to the brightly coloured mosques nearby, the Methodist Church Pettah on Dam Street reflects the austere outlook of its missionary founders, who built it in 1816. Still often referred to by its original title of the Colombo City Mission, the building houses Asia’s first Methodist church. The mission building was also once home to the first classrooms of Wesley College, Colombo, a primary and secondary boys school, which opened in 1874. Sri Lanka. September 2020.
