A Sri Lanka Navy infantryman stands guard at the approaches to the bomb-damaged St Anthony’s Shrine, Kochchikade. The famous church, situated close to the Colombo Port, was devastated by a suicide bomber on Easter Sunday morning, 21st April 2019. More than a hundred worshippers were killed here, while elsewhere, suicide bombers from an ISIS-affiliated local group called Thowheed Jamath simultaneously blew up two other Roman Catholic churches, and three Colombo hotels, raising the death toll to over 250, with over 500 wounded (licensed to Polaris Images).
