The east Colombo ward of Borella, just after sundown. Shot through a 3-inch gap in a window on the 9th floor of the Golden Key Hospital in Rajagiriya. Sri Lanka, April 2018.
The Maradana Railway Station (in the centre of the photo), built in 1908, and the Elphinstone Theatre (extreme left), built in 1916, are two of Maradana’s most enduring landmarks. Shot, facing east, from the 350m tall Lotus Tower. Colombo, Sri Lanka. March 2018.
The photograph is of the southern entrance to the city of Nuwara Eliya, via a bridge over Lake Gregory, which was created in 1873, when Sir William Gregory ordered the damming of the Thalagala Stream, flooding the swamps at the southern end of the valley. Shot on assignment for Serendib, the inflight magazine of Sri Lankan Airlines. My story, ‘The Nuwara Eliya Season in Spring‘, runs in the April 2017 issue.
