Also known as the “Thahanci Kele” (or Forbidden Forest), this 257-acre sanctuary — incredibly located just a short walk from the city center — was once a private reserve of the Kandyan royal family, and closed to commoners.

An Islamic extremist group has been blamed for six suicide bombings that targeted three Roman Catholic churches across Sri Lanka, as well as three Colombo hotels, killing almost 300 and wounding over 500 more.
