A Civil Defence Force sentry at the Ruwanwelisaya, a 2nd century BC shrine, in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. With the end of the civil war in 2009, security has relaxed visibly in public areas. In 1985, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a terrorist group fighting for a separate state attacked the Sri Maha Bodhi, a kilometre away, one of the most sacred Buddhist shrines in Sri Lanka. A hundred and forty-six men, women, and children were killed at the shrine and in the surrounding countryside that day.
Farmers meet in the middle of their paddy fields to discuss the harvest, Ahetugaswewa, Welioya, Sri Lanka. This was shot for my article, Heirlooms Unforgotten: the Heritage Rice of Sri Lanka which appeared in the March 2016 issue of Serendib, the inflight magazine of Sri Lankan Airlines.
