A couple stroll along the Jaffna-Kayts Causeway at sunset. Rebuilt after the 30-year civil war, the original causeway was heavily damaged in the fighting, most notably during the 1990 siege of the Jaffna Fort, when the 1st Sinha Rifles, commanded by Maj Sarath Fonseka and the 1st Gajabas, commanded by Maj Gotabhaya Rajapakse, attacked across the causeway to secure a bridgehead close to the fort.
